Integrative Therapy
Compassion and Insight
Integrative Therapy is a Treatment Model currently under development to address the complex issues and needs of adopted individuals. It is a treatment model built on Compassion and Insight, and seeks to remove the stigma of pathology and normalize the experience of adopted persons. It is being developed to provide a framework for effective treatment and to guide therapists in their practice of doing therapy with adoptees.
The model is rooted within Psychodynamic and Attachment Theory and is informed by the new science of Interpersonal Neurobiology which is currently “proving” the seminal importance of dynamic insight and approaches.
The model’s focus is on the Mindfulness of the therapist and the process of Integration for the adopted client. It incorporates both verbal and non-verbal interventions, like Play, Art, Music, and Pet Assisted approaches to facilitate trust and attachment, and to touch upon the implicit experiences of the adoptee. It touches upon the core issue of loss and works through the experience of developmental trauma specific to the adoption experience.
